Embracing the moment is what being a Gypsy is about. I realized today that I have been living in the Airstream full time for 5 months. The essence of Gypsy-ness has been present, and the lifestyle simple. But, for much of this time, I feel I wasn’t TRULY BEING a Gypsy. I mean, our rig has been parked more than it has explored. Not only has our beloved gypsy wagon been parked, it’s mostly been in the same place.
Despite my Gypsy soul’s longing to be constantly on the road, having children who go to school in one place and with whom I time share with their father, this simply is not a full time option during the school year. For this reason, I find New Mexico always finds way to fill my gypsy soul desires. I am reminded I don’t have to be on the road to express my free spirit to it’s fullest! The enchantment of this land provides endless nostalgia, eclectic culture, history, and timeless landscapes to quench even the strongest of wandering callings!
And, on Saturday being a rooted Gypsy paid off.
Every year, for the past 13 years, GypsyFest finds it’s way t0 Madrid, New Mexico. Our Airstream parked only 25 minutes away, we didn’t have to hit the road in order to honor our free spirits! Instead, we dressed in our best Gypsy wares, gathered our Gypsy Airstream friends and celebrated that we had been parkin’ it in the same place for a month and a half.
To this I say!
