Goose Medicine : The Great Quest

( May 2014)

Nature is always speaking to us.

It doesn’t matter if we are in the wilds or in the city.

I find it interesting that I have just as many messages from GAIA driving back from the city as I do walking in the woods.

Last week driving back from ABQ ; in the city ; pondering my own quest and postcards from a quest, I asked myself big questions.  What am I questing for? love? truth? a vision? freedom? all the happy moments? success? money? abundance?community? true friends?

I was reflecting on past experiences where I had consistently chose “no” people instead of ‘yes” people and how I wanted to build a community of support around “yes” people this year.

Where were my motives? my intentions? what were they exactly??

I knew.

I’ve always known.  My motives and intentions are what drive everything I do. It is my truth. Only I know what it feels like. It is my hope that it reflects in my actions and others can receive it with open hearts.

I began to think about everything I’ve been through over the past three years.

I knew that I could endure the lowest points of humanity…my living conditions,  non existent finances, co-dependent destructive relationships, my own low self esteem and low self worth. I knew I could survive those and even continually create, find meaning, share, be a good mother, and help others in that space….But I was beginning to wonder…..

“Could I do this on the other end of the spectrum? Could I survive, endure and thrive in the space that was so vibrationally high, good, loving, true , uplifting, happy, financially abundant, and full of love? My dreams manifested in reality?

My inner wisdom and compass said of course I could. But, I still needed to experience it!

And I understood. That is my Quest! to swing the pendulum to the other side and see how I fare there!

At that moment, a flock of geese flying into the East out of the West out of death and into new territory, new journeys, new insights, new beginnings, clarity.  Had anyone else seen? We were driving on the highway in Monday morning traffic…did anyone else get this message? Was it only for me?

When I got home, I did a quick search on Goose Medicine and landed directly on the page of

Morningstar Flower & Vibrational Essences

I couldn’t believe what I was reading! Someone else had the same interpretation and experience with seeing geese as I had! Some of the quotes that struck a most relevant chord were:

think of these changes as a “great quest”, that it is all part of the journey of life and I knew in that moment that the skills and tools I needed to navigate these changes were at hand

It is also very important for people in this situation to know that they can find a “spiritual flock” that can support them.

While Goose medicine people do bond strongly with those they love, they also tend to have strong need to travel, if not on the physical, at least in their own imaginations. This ties in with the migratory patterns of Geese as well as their association with stories and myths of far away lands and mystical places. Goose people seem to be happiest in life when they can embark frequently on travel, journeys and quests of some sort.

This can serve them and others very well indeed for if there is a solution or idea that needs to be found, the Goose person will most surely travel far and wide to find it, even if its only on the internet! Give the Goose person an idea for a quest and they will happily take up the challenge. They may not always trust their instincts however and this is a shame as their navigational instincts are excellent.

a new possibility is beginning to open up in my life and a whole new “map” is needed to navigate it. I need to prepare to embark on a new “quest”.

Goose reminds us that we all have our own “flight plan” that is totally accessable to us when we turn within for guidance. We may not always be able to totally see everything that lies ahead of us in life and yet we can learn to trust the wisdom within us that does know and has every potentiality provided for well in advance if we do learn to trust it.

What are you Questing for my friend?

What messages are you receiving from Nature today? Did a wild animal appear for you today? What were you thinking about when you saw it? What was it doing that caught your attention?

Herein lies the answers that you seek!

Herein lies our Wild Natures and intuition.

Take time to listen today to your wild spirit! And remember that we are all connected.

Peregrine Falcon : What Do You Choose?

Peregrine Falcon | Photo Caption: Excerpted from North America: A World in One Continent by Huw Cordey

(December 2014)

The other day I was driving back from the ranch and was thinking about my upcoming outing with my mom and daughters to go see the Nutcracker on stage.

I was contemplating where we would we go to get the girls’ a “dress-up” outfit. Would we descend upon the local  thrift stores or head somewhere like Old Navy?

Either way I was already set in my mind that I would allow them to coordinate their own outfits through their own vision and personal expression.

It’s these types of mind trips that start me thinking about when I was young….their age.

I began to recall  shopping for a holiday outfit or dress for a dance.

I was always encouraged to pick something out, but ultimately would be cajoled into settling on  something that was more to my parent’s liking.

Certainly a small compromise was involved, however, the final choice was generally to appease the authorities ~ after all they were buying!

I suddenly became acutely aware of  how long I had continued that pattern throughout my adulthood….making choices that were for the approval of others.

These choices ranged from choosing a college to giving up on dreams of being a vet, or owning a horse.

Memories of hiding my outfits of choice under an outfit of their approval when heading off to school creeped up.

It seems as if I never got to really choose what I liked or what I was drawn to, and instead had to settle for somebody else’s vision.

I realize this is probably quite common across generations…but, I refuse to mindlessly repeat these scenarios with my own children.

Granted there will be guidance in areas of what is age appropriate, but guiding them in ways that encourages keeping their foundational self expression, creative ideas, and personal attractions intact.

After such an epiphany, I turned the attention to myself and I asked,  “What would it be like to choose what YOU like, for yourself?”

At that moment I began to explore the answer a peregrine falcon lifted off from a tree on the left side of the road and as I drove forward, it flew low in front of my wind shield, banked left and glided parallel to my vehicle for a few seconds. Certainly long enough to make a positive I.D. more than once!

I was instantly reminded of the drawing I did earlier in the year of a mystic ( yeah, me) with a peregrine falcon on her shoulder (yeah, her spirit ally) holding a sprig of wild flowers in its beak.

What did peregrine want me to know?

I returned home and stared longingly into the eyes of the mystic, my mirror, as she sits on my desk in printed form.

All high flyers; such as falcons, hawks, eagles are typically revered as messenger birds throughout various world cultures and indigenous peoples. Their appearance in our lives asks us to get up high and take in a broader view of our lives.  From a higher perspective, we scan the landscape of our dreams and realities. These earth spirits challenge us to tap into our higher vision and purpose.

I was humbled by peregrine’s timely appearance in relation to my momentous thoughts on my desires and choices!

Has a high flyer showed up in your life lately? Perhaps if so, you could take a moment to listen to your own spirit’s desires and see a broader path of purpose !

As this drawing suggests, You already have everything you need to be that bigger version of yourself that you are envisioning! All the resources you have gathered through your life up until now are available for your use ! Your guides are with you ! It’s time to commit to your choices, desires and the greatness that is your purpose, that is YOU!

Coyote Crossing : Lessons On Being Late

(December 2015)

very once in awhile Mother Nature smiles down on us.  Just because I live in a small wilderness village in the mountains, doesn’t mean I see a plethora of wildlife everyday. Oh no my dear wild friend. Most of our furry creatures are elusive, cunning, smart, and ethereal.

But once in a blue moon, or sunny day, if you are lucky enough and the timing is right, these mystical yet real characters of our myths and imaginations appear and linger long enough to keep you pondering the encounter for days!

Such was the case for me on Friday!

After two days of being in a cloud of wintery blizzards, the sun finally emerged lighting up a winter wonderland that would rival the Northern states. It was my day to head to Albuquerque to get my kiddos for the weekend and I was running a little late.  Coming down the mountain,  I came around one of our road’s sketchy corners  and slowed my roll.  ( I know this is weird but, ) I spied a fresh pile of scat in the middle of the road. It was obvious against the white snow and I KNEW it wasn’t there when I had  passed the same corner only minutes ago heading up the hill to take my guy home.

Sure enough, a few feet from the pile was the culprit! I stopped the car and reached behind my seat fumbling to unzip my backpack and retrieve my camera. ( who the fuck packs their camera away when the scene looks like the picture above!?) I managed to get it out just in time to watch this amazing fawn colored light footed mystical creature disappear into the shrubs. ARGH!!!

But, leave it to a coyote to embody the role of trickster! I was just about to continue on my way when no sooner did I spy that little prankster  in the middle of the road a mere 50 ft from me!  She had backtracked on me in the hidden bushes and popped back out for a playful encore! Bravo!

I suddenly realized  I wasn’t late at all………. but rather right on time! AND I had my camera ready!

The Lesson? The time is always right and stay open to second chances!
